BookDragon

I love books! What more can I say? Netflix.com provides me with all the DVD’s I can handle. As for books, my thanks go out to Amazon.com, Borders (a chai latte, please!) and all the used book sales I can get to. For anything I can’t find in any of these places, I go to my local library. (Interlibrary Loans are SHINY!)

Summer Reading

The summer is officially over now that I have read the last of the Marcus Didius Falco books by Lindsey Davis. This was a great series for lovers of mysteries, lovers of Ancient Rome (and history in general) and anyone who loves a great story with memorable characters. Below is a list of the series so far. Ms. Davis continues to write and all her fans (including myself) look forward to her future books.

I particularly liked the way she integrated known ruins into her stories. Of course at the time the stories took place, the reign of Vespasian, these were not ruins. I noted some of the place that the books included.

1. The Silver Pigs (1989) – Roman Britain and the silver mines
2. Shadows in Bronze
(1990)
3. Venus in Copper (1991)
4. The Iron Hand of Mars (1992) Germany and the site of the massacre at the Teutoberg Forest
5. Poseidon's Gold (1993)
6. Last Act in Palmyra (1994) Petra and the Decapolis
7. Time to Depart (1995)
8. A Dying Light in Corduba (1996) Spain and the olive oil industry
9. Three Hands in the Fountain (1997) Julius Frontinus and the aqueducts
10. Two for the Lions (1998) Lepcis Magna
11. One Virgin Too Many (1999)
12. Ode to a Banker (2000)
13. A Body in the Bath House (2001) Britain and the Fishbourne estate
14. The Jupiter Myth (2002
) Still in Britain - Londinium
15. The Accusers (2003) Roman Law at its seediest
16. Scandal Takes a Holiday (2004) -
17. See Delphi and Die (2005
) – not out yet!
