BookDragon

I love books! What more can I say? Netflix.com provides me with all the DVD’s I can handle. As for books, my thanks go out to Amazon.com, Borders (a chai latte, please!) and all the used book sales I can get to. For anything I can’t find in any of these places, I go to my local library. (Interlibrary Loans are SHINY!)

Triffids!

Thanks to UK Gold I have been watching "Day of the Triffids" by John Wyndham produced by the BBC in 1981. It's riveting but a bit dated: the clothes in particular and especially the women's ghastly makeup. It's about time they re-did this classic book with modern special effects. Wyndham's books are fantastic in the extreme and should be given huge budgets to be made into TV series like this (a movie just wouldn't be long enough to cover all of his concepts.) I would especially like to see "Kraken Awakes" (known in North America as "Out of the Deeps"), one of the most terrifying books I have ever read.

Done with the edumacation

Classes are done and they should be mailing my Masters degree diploma any day now! so, back to the serious reading and TV watching.

I am back on the Hamish Macbeth books by MC Beaton and also reading the Illustrated Longitude by Dava Sobel. I am just done with the 3rd season of Babylon 5 and almost done with the Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

As for movies I just watched a couple of Peter Weller movies that I didn't understand and the film Sin City. My comment on Sin City is that it seems pointless to make this into a movie. The graphic novels are brilliant and the movie just adds motion to what is already there. It almost feels like they are taking a giant step backwards since movies are sometimes lower on the food chain than graphic novels are. Marv was awesome, however, and I bet Frank Miller is still kicking himself for killing him off in the very first story. Can someone give me a prequel?!?
